It was a huge delight to find out that Gretel the Wonder Mammoth, my third picture book, had been nominated for the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize 2023 in the Illustrated Books category. It was then a wonderful surprise to find out at the brilliant prize ceremony at Waterstones Picadilly, that Gretel had won Best Illustrated Book 2023! I received a £2,000 prize plus a commitment from Waterstones to support my future work, which is just wonderful.
In the week that followed, Waterstones across the country changed their window displays to feature Gretel. I went on a book signing trip and also wrote a piece for the Waterstones blog about the picture book that always leaves me ready to create – which you can read here.
